January 25, 2021 Update: ResCare Home Care APs will get a $2.54 per hour increase to our base wages for all hours worked in January, February, and March 2021.

August 27, 2020 update: We have exciting news for ResCare (All Ways Caring HomeCare) caregivers. Our bargaining team has been working to reach an agreement with ResCare about extending Hazard Pay – and thanks to workers raising their voices, we have made it happen!

Hazard pay: ResCare APs will now get a $2.73 increase to your base wages for all hours worked in July, August, and September. You’ll receive your hazard pay for hours you’ve worked in your September 10 paycheck.

PPE: You will continue to be provided with all the necessary PPE for caring for all your clients. You can ask your supervisor for PPE – contact us if you haven’t received PPE upon request.

Through impact bargaining, ResCare caregivers have won:

  1. Hazard Pay: ResCare APs will receive an additional $3.15 an hour for every hour worked in May and June. We are all on the front lines, so all ResCare APs will receive this pay, regardless if you are caring for a client with COVID-19.
  2. More PPE: ResCare has committed to spending additional funds to provide PPE and supplies intended to protect workers, including one-time-use N-95 masks, gowns, and gloves for caring for test-positive clients.
  3. Healthcare and Training: ResCare is increasing their hourly contribution rate to the Training Partnership and Health Benefits Trust for all hours worked in May and June, so no one loses healthcare coverage.

Despite the State facing a growing budget deficit as a result of the pandemic, Governor Inslee agreed to increase funding for home care agencies like ResCare in order to provide this immediate support to caregivers. This was all made possible because of caregivers like you sending letters, signing petitions, sharing your stories, and so much more to demand the Legislature prioritize caregivers to receive Federal stimulus money.

Standing together got us to this point – we need to keep this up to make sure that caregivers are treated as the essential professionals they are.

SEIU 775 caregivers across Washington state came together, interviewed the people running for office in Washington, and are proud to endorse the following candidates for elected office.

Statewide Ballot Issues:

Approve Referendum Measure No. 90

Requires all public schools to offer medically accurate age-appropriate comprehensive sex education that is LGBTQ inclusive, includes affirmative consent, and teaches the signs of healthy relationships.

Approve Engrossed Senate Joint Resolution No. 8212

In 2019 the legislature passed a landmark bipartisan law establishing the Long Term Care Trust, which will help reduce the burdensome cost of long term care for hundreds of thousands struggling Washington families.  This amendment, 8212, is designed to allow the independent oversight committee established by the Long Term Care Trust Act to better manage and invest our money, ensuring our money is there for us when we need it for decades to come.

County Ballot Issues:

King County:

Yes on Charter Amendment No. 7 – Prohibiting Discrimination on the Basis of Family Caregiver, Military or Veteran Status

If adopted, Charter Amendment No. 7 would add the following to the list of statuses for which discrimination in county employment and contracting with nongovernmental entities is prohibited: (1) status as a family caregiver; (2) military status; and (3) status as a veteran who was honorably discharged or who was discharged solely as a result of the person’s sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.

Approve Proposition No. 1 – Harborview Medical Center Health and Safety Improvement Bonds

This proposition would authorize King County to make public health, safety and seismic improvements to Harborview Medical Center facilities, including construction of new buildings, renovation and upgrading of existing facilities and demolition of existing buildings. This will allow Harborview to increase critical health capacity, update and expand modern infection control standards and expand behavioral health capacity.
